Trial and application procedure
For an application to join our team, a trial project or probation period is required.
Builders have two possible ways to apply. We decide individually which path is suitable for each applicant. Builders with experience in the Minecraft Marketplace have a greater chance of receiving a Marketplace trial. Applicants who apply exclusively as builders and/or through our server system will likely have to build a trial project on our server.
1.1 Marketplace Trial
The Marketplace trial is supervised by various team members. Applicants are ranked based on the persuasiveness of their portfolio. Supporter Pixelbiests take care of access, NDAs, and introduction to team structures. Once applicants have all the necessary information, they take on tasks in a test project as soon as possible. If it is a large project, the trial may be completed after one project. However, it may also be necessary for applicants to participate in multiple projects for testing purposes.
This type of trial can be offered for the following roles in the team:
Combinations of these areas are possible and welcome.
During the Marketplace trial, several contacts are available who can support the applicant in various areas:
- Legal questions (including contracts)
- Technical issues (cloud, server, and more)
- Project workflows at Pixelbiester
- Questions regarding the respective field of work (modeling, building, behavior)
Desired qualities that ideally should be demonstrated during the trial project include:
- Open, honest, and friendly communication
- Reliability
- Proactiveness
- Commitment
- Expertise in the relevant field
After the probation period, the team management will decide in a personal conversation with the applicant whether and which future positions may be considered for the applicant. Created works receive compensation when used. However, there is a possibility that the applicant's performance may be deemed insufficient. In this case, the work will not be used, and no compensation will be provided for the time spent.
1.2 Pixelbiester Trial for Builders on Our Server
The Pixelbiester trial is supervised by the examination team. Applicants receive the rank after their Plot 3 or their application through the website is accepted. A personal conversation between the applicant and a member of the examination team introduces the new trial into the workflows.
The trial consists of two phases:
- Planning phase (3 weeks)
- Building phase (2 weeks)
Before the start of the planning phase, the trial is presented with three different topics to choose from. It has one week to decide on a topic. If the trial is dissatisfied with all the topics, it is possible to receive three new topics to choose from once.
After communicating the topic choice to the examination team, the planning phase begins with the following focuses:
- Visualization of the topic (creating sketches)
- Planning/determining the size of the project
- Trying out different building styles
After the three-week planning phase, the trial notifies the examination team in writing or orally that he or she is starting the building phase independently. The following conditions apply:
- Tree/asset databases may be used.
- Own assets from the planning phase may only be used in the trial project with the examination team's confirmation.
Any extensions in time during any phase should be requested properly, politely, and in a timely manner from the examination team. After completing the building phase, the examination team will evaluate and analyze the project. The evaluation usually takes about one week.
If the project is convincing, the trial has access to various ranks:
- Pixelbiest Prime
- PB-Contractor
- Pixelbiest (hobby builders who only build on Pixelbuild without commercial interest)
If the project does not convince, there is the possibility to repeat the trial with a new topic. However, there is no entitlement to this option. The examination team decides whether repeating the trial is appropriate or not.
Trials have the following rights:
- Participation in weekly meetings and plot evaluations
- Participation in discussions or conversations about topics that arise in the meetings
- Co-evaluation of contests
- Access to the Pixelbuild server
